Film Photography

Our studio photographed film at every wedding from 1999-2011 photographing over 1,000 weddings before the quality of digital finally arrived at a comparable quality.  After our switch to digital, we maintained our classic film mentality, technique and quality which is why our photos have such a timeless quality.

Though we use a lot of film techniques, here's a few we only use minimally on request because in their time they were considered poor quality, not a desired effect:

• Blurry photos: we use motion blur at times but will never make you blurry.  If that happened during the film days, a refund was required.  We won't mimic that.
• Flash lit or direct light:  This is when the background is dark and the subject has direct light leading to shiny skin tones and harsh shadows.  This was a low quality technique for those who didn't use off camera lighting.
• Dark Photos:  Dark photos looked awful when shot with film.  It's done now to avoid using flash but makes it hard to see expressions and eyes.
• Light Leaks:  This is a filter used to mimic a broken film camera.  Needless to say, it's not something we want to mimic.
